Tay Tay and the Great Mouse Game
One afternoon, my sister Suzi and I were in the middle of a very important conversation. You know, the kind that involves absolutely nothing but feels critical when a chatty toddler won’t let you finish a single sentence. My little niece Tay Tay was doing her best to out-talk both of us, peppering us with rapid-fire questions and random observations about everything from her socks to the neighbor’s dog.
Finally, desperate for a strategy, I turned to Suzi with a mischievous grin. “Do you hear that?” I asked, pretending to listen intently.
Suzi caught on immediately. “What? Do I hear what?”
“I think I hear a mouse!” I whispered dramatically.
Tay Tay stopped mid-sentence and blinked at us, momentarily thrown off. Victory, right? Wrong.
“A mouse?!” she squealed, her curiosity already working overtime.
“Shhh,” Suzi said, upping the ante. “There it is again! Did you hear it?”
I nodded enthusiastically. “Yep, definitely a mouse.”
We exchanged smirks, silently congratulating ourselves on our genius. Surely, Tay Tay would get annoyed by being ignored and quiet down. But instead, her little face lit up with glee.
“Let’s play that game where I’m the mouse!” she shouted, bouncing in place.
Suzi and I looked at each other, realizing we had created a monster. A very noisy, very energetic monster.
Lesson learned: never underestimate Tay Tay , she wanted to play I´m the mouse for the next year or so.
