Alexa tells a Story

It was a bright, sunny afternoon, and the three of us—me, London, and little Alexa—were cruising down the road, the car filled with laughter and chatter. London and I were deep into exchanging stories, each one trying to outdo the other. London had just finished her tale about the time she accidentally texted the wrong group chat, and we were both laughing so hard tears were forming in our eyes.

Then, out of nowhere, Alexa piped up from the back seat, her tiny voice full of authority. “My turn to tell a story!” she declared.

London and I immediately quieted down, eager to hear what this pint-sized storyteller had to say. “Go ahead, sweetheart,” I said, glancing at her in the rearview mirror.

We waited. And waited. Silence. London and I exchanged puzzled looks.

Finally, I asked, “Alexa, what happened? I thought you were going to tell us a story?”

She held up one tiny hand to silence me, gave me the most serious look a five-year-old could muster, and tapped her little temple with her finger. “Wait a minute,” she said dramatically. “It is downloading.”

That was it. London and I burst into uncontrollable laughter, and Alexa just smirked like she was the queen of comedy. Honestly, she probably is. The rest of the car ride, we couldn’t stop teasing her about her “slow Wi-Fi.”
